from what i have seen these do not transfer from print to ebook very well, there is alot of missing information.
I would NOT recommend the ebook, but if there is a print copy, that has all the information, and paragraphs/studies, aren't cut off halfway through, it would be good information.

In his memoirs, Gore Vidal calls this novel the beginning of his literary voice. It is a joy to read, and appears to have been a joy to write, for this youthful, vibrant, charismatic novel flows effortlessly through cities, affairs, and misadventures. Colorful characters abound -- early on there's an uproariously matter-of-fact description of our hero's casual fling with the wife of an American power broker. The mythological superstructure of the book -- glorious youth flirting with power, wisdom, and love -- is light enough for Vidal's characters to prance and amuse. It's a nice departure from his oh-so-serious historical novels and a welcome, balletic hop into Vidal's fantasies. He wrote this novel around 1950 -- when peace and prosperity were just re-emerging after wartime. Read this book, if only to see Gore Vidal exercise a masterful light touch years before he turned bitter.

In the beginning...

This is the first true Vidal novel. The value of those that went before this work are valuable more for their content than style ("Williwaw" and "City and the Pillar" - both strongly recommended nonetheless). With the Judgment of Paris, Vidal became the heir to a beautiful tradition that may be traced back to Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain" and Somerset Maugham's "Christmas Holiday."

Gore Vidal's wit and humour sparkle in this tale of a young american boy traveling Europe in search of a purpose to his life. Like Paris, he knows the lures of power, knowlwdge and love, represented by three fascinating women. The characterization and the detailing of the major and minor charachters make of this book a masterpiece, full of wry notations and often exilarating situations. A must read!

I'm actually still a Dane but haven't lived in Denmark for se entry years now, so this gives me an update on current mores that Id otherwise not get, and it's fascinating! I have known for a long time that I can never "go back to Denmark." What I knew as Denmark has altered almost beyond recognition. I think it's a change for the better: it's a more egalitarian society and very few people are forced into drudgery to stay alive. After 45 years in the United States I'd find it very difficult to live there now, excellent as it is in many ways. Having no Danish background at all, Helen Russell observes the Denmark of today with eyes uncontaminated by distant memories, but prejudiced in favor of the Danes being the happiest people on earth. This makes the book pleasant, interesting and funny to read, as well as quite informative. I really enjoyed it!

And this is A Good Thing. ” I wanted a light and fun

“I am not important. If I take a break, no one dies. And this is A Good Thing.”

I wanted a light and fun, but deeply interesting read to bring on a summer trip, and this book turned out to be the perfect choice. It offered a pretty entertaining look at Danish culture and society, all through the lens of why they continually rank among the highest countries in terms of happiness.

I’m not too hard to please with a good book that takes on the premise of “I’ll try this out for a year and then write about it,” and this book fits that description to a tee. The writing is light and engaging enough to make it easy to fly right through its pages, yet contains enough statistics and odd facts to keep you intrigued. Did you know that Danish women can get an ovulation discount for booking their travel around a ripe time for them to procreate? I do now.

After a while you get the formula of each chapter: an anecdote, a few statistics, an interview with a randomly found “expert,” and the constant questioning of various Danes about how happy they are on a scale of 1 to 10. That said, the book manages to be pretty interesting in spite of its persistence upon this formula, so I suppose that’s a big win.

As far as Denmark goes? I could probably do without the tax rate (although, that comes with some major benefits), cultural homogeny, and the never-ending darkness come November, but there’s a lot about the Danish Way that I do appreciate. The lack of self-importance reflected in that earlier quote… I think that’s refreshing. And I love the way they’re able to enjoy their work. Not to mention the practice of hygge and getting all cozy as a sport.

Living Danishly sounds good to me!

I rarely rate books as I usually am in bed when I finish them (being the place I do my best reading), and it is just too much trouble to think of something to say when sleep is calling. However, I enjoyed this book so much that I want to share it with others. Helen Russell builds on the World Happiness research that says Denmark is the tops. She combines her own experiences with scientific research that explores different aspects of Denmark life. Sounds dry but it is anything but. She is a very good writer and often quite funny. I love how she calls her husband "Lego Man" and without giving away any spoilers her encounter with little Red is enchanting. Having grown up in the USA it is ingrained in me that we are lucky to be born here in America. However, after reading this book a little part of me wishes I lived where they get hygge and the basic worries of life are covered allowing the citizens to operate on a higher plane of existence. I would trade all our "things" for a short work week and a culture of trust.

delightful story

This was a sweet story. Hannah writes a best seller and needs to retreat to a cosy cottage that was owned by her grandparents. She meets a collage professor and they fall in love. He also fulfills a lifelong dream of hers to be spanked and there are some erotic scenes.

the results were awesome. This book contains recipes you may not find ...

Vague and inconsistent instructions, confusing translation, missing ingredients, extra ingredients, mysterious ingredients...... So I have had to improvise using my knowledge from 40 years of baking to fill in the gaps. For example, the recipe for Kranz, page 83, is confusing beyond comprehension. But it sounded interesting, so I winged it using the book to point me in the general direction. the results were awesome. This book contains recipes you may not find anywhere else, but be prepared for frustration if you expect clarity.

as a baker by trade, there is a few to know about this book that A some recipes for example foccacia's are more in the line of sweet dough then the average foccacia's that people usually make.B the standard bread dough recipes are pretty straight forward then I expected,compared to Nancy silvertons((breads from the la brea bakery) or sally fields (the Italian baker)but still good in taste.and B from the pannetone to the Impasto speciale are perfectly done well and well executed,I guess you seem to expect that from a master pastry chef. if your a home baker best to start investing into a digital scale and also ingredients eg:egg yolks and alot of them and butter aswell but this is the price you pay to have real bread at home from Italy,and as for supermarket bakers good luck. artisan/pasty chefs you'll probably breeze through this book with ease.

p.s if you buy this book do alot of research before you start creating one of Iginio Massari's recipes cause the last thing you want is expensive ingredients

This book is a beauty and I've only begun to experiment with the recipes but I must say one thing - the book lacks detailed instructions for the average home baker. I don't know if this has anything to do with the book being translated from italian to english, but inexperienced bakers will be left feeling a bit perplexed by the 'spartan' instructions. The measurements are also in metric units instead of the standard U.S. cups and tablespoons.

Being that I have baking knowledge from working in bakeries and restaurants, my personal opinion of this book is that it's worth the 60 or 70 euros that my husband spent on purchasing it from the publisher. My only regret is that it was not the italian edition. I am tending to believe that perhaps some key steps in procedures may have been lost in the translation.

Highly Entertaining Read

I highly recommend this book. It is highly entertaining and well written for it's time. Let me say I would take it all with a grain of salt. I personally knew Ray Fowler the author. I worked at the same government contractor location that he did. (This information is in Ray Fowler's biography available on line and thus considered open source information.) We built the command and control for the ICBM missle systems. Coincidentally, many of the UFO reports in the Mid-West and West were over SAC ICBM Missle bases in the 60's, 70's and 80's... The government objected to Ray Fowler's extracurricular activities due to the sensitive nature of our work. Ray retired early, but I don't know if it were related to his UFO research and related FOIA requests. Before that however, in the September or October 1983 issue of "Boston" magazine there was an article about unusual societies in New England. One such discription of an unusual society and the accompanying photo was about a UFO research group based in New England. The photo of the society members was taken at ground level in black and white just after dusk to give it an erie effect. The members in the picture included Ray Fowler, the public relations director, the VP and GM, and another executive member of the government contractor that Ray Fowler and I worked for. The public relations director was well connected with the television, radio, and written print media groups in the Boston Area at that time. I sometimes wonder if it was done as an inside gag! It was also rummored that one of Andreasson's relations also worked with us. The defense contractor that we worked for no longer exsists in name, nor at that location where I worked with Mr. Fowler. It was bought by a larger defense contractor in the 1990's and relocated. Ray Fowler was a highly respected man at work and very keen on the UFO research movement.

I would readily recommend this book as guidance to all parliamentary drafters

This book is, in my opinion, the leading authoritative textbook dealing with all important aspects legislative drafting. I would readily recommend this book as guidance to all parliamentary drafters. In addition, the book is a very useful guide to modern legal writing, generally. Professor Helen Xanthaki has done a brilliant job in editing and updating this 5th Edition.
