Platypire Reviews
By J. Hooligan @ Platypire Reviews
I was given a copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.

Being from Texas, this was an especially interesting story. I don't often get to read about places I know. Then, how they used paranormal characters as well was pretty cool.

My favorite characters were Olivia and Drifter. Pretty much every time I burst out laughing was because of Olivia's "Pfft", and Drifter is just a really awesome guy. In the end, though, I kinda ended up feeling sorry for Drifter. He was a pretty cool character, but ended up getting shafted.

The story itself was awesome, but it needs work. Lots of times it felt too rushed, which took from a lot of the story. There were things said that ended up being contradicted and just downright being confusing.

I did like the relationship between Christy and Adam, and how important it was to them. That was the best part of the whole story.

3/5 Platypires

A Teen fantasy about a battle of Love, Good and Evil in a Small Country Town
By Paula L. Phillips
Growing up in a small country town can be difficult as everyone knows everyone and everyone has their cliques, even worse though is when you are different and viewed as an outcast. The outcasts then drift together and become friends, that is what happened with Christy and Adam. Christy is a witch who is still coming into her full-blown powers and is also in the closet to how powerful her witch skills actually are and Adam is gay. All Christy wants is for her and Adam to find their true loves, so she conjures up a true love spell. The next day gay hottie Mark Black turns up in town and a new girl Olivia who reminds me of a punk rocker and now Ian is starting to notice Christy, so it seems that the spell worked and things are looking up for them. However, happiness can only last for so long as tragedy and trouble is looming over their town when evil lands and threatens to ruin everything that Christy has created. Can she save her town from evil and also the ones she loves ?

Alright book
By ZomGirl
I bought this book quite a while ago and finally got around to reading it. It was hard to get into at first because the story just didn't pull me in right away. I love paranormal books and have been on the hunt for anything with witches and magic. While this book was entertaining, it just fell short for me due to the main characters. Let me explain.

The characters were not original at all. Best friends since forever and outcasts with special powers...never seen that before, right? I DO like that one of the main characters was a gay teenage boy; I like how YA books are starting to represent a wider range of characters. I kept wishing he would get some cool magical powers but alas, that didn't happen and he stayed the nerdy side kick throughout the story. (Again, very overused).

Christy's character development was all over the place. Perhaps this was due to having two different people write this book? She was strong and badass some of the time. And then she was whinny about being overweight, unpopular, single, and unattractive. Her obsessive whining about her physical appearance made her seem really shallow and almost unlikeable. And she did NOTHING about it. Not only is she supposed to be a powerful witch who could whip up some sort of spell, it just annoys me in general when people are unhappy with their appearance and they do nothing to either change it or accept it and be happy the way they are. It's annoying to hear people complain IRL. It's annoying to read characters complain in books.

The two main characters were supposed to be in high school, yet they didn't act like normal high school students which was one of the contributing factors in why this was hard for me to get into. I kept getting distracting from the plot thinking 'teenagers do not act like this!'. I've seen this before in YA and call it 'adult author syndrome'. I don't know why (some) adult authors make teenagers so awkwardly immature. Most people over the age of 5 do NOT stick out their tongues anymore!

The plot was enjoyable enough to keep reading despite having a few of my character pet-peeves. This was a quick, easy read and it left me feeling good when the story ended. One thing I LOVED was that the (again overplayed) hot, mysterious new boy in school turned out to be gay. That is something I haven't read too many times before. It was an expected twist that (in my eyes) redeemed some of the more annoying qualities in this story. And I really liked that the vampire was evil and there was no vamp-human romance.

I would recommend this book.
